ASERI is pleased to invite you to the Master in International Cooperation and Development (MICaD) open lecture "Colombia 2017: re-existing in peace".

Colombia is undergoing  a crucial process of transition: the signing of the historic peace agreements with the FARC-EP guerrilla (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia - Ejército del Pueblo); the subsequent unexpected NO in the referendum, in which citizens rejected what was agreed in the negotiations; the Nobel Prize to President Manuel Santos, and the beginning of the public phase of negotiations with the ELN (Ejército de Liberación Nacional) in Quito. At this time, we need to deepen our understanding of a conflict that lasted for decades, and the challenges of the post-agreement.

Victor de Currea-Lugo, Professor of International Humanitarian Law, Contemporary Armed Conflicts and Middle East Studies, analyses the challenges for implementing the peace agreements with FARC-EP guerrilla and the conflict resolution with ELN guerrilla.

Harold Montufar, Mayor of the Municipality of Samaniego (Nariño) between 2004 and 2007, witnesses the local peace building effort initiated during his mandate. Samaniego has been a positive example for the country, thanks to the implementation of the local peace pact: a proposal for a territorial peace, ceasefire, protection of civil rights, especially the right to life. Recently, this experience has been reactivated in Quito as the result of a process of resistance and re-existence of local communities.
