Prof. De Poli teaches Contemporary history of Islamic Countries at Ca' Foscari University in Venice. She has conducted extensive fieldwork in North Africa, especially Morocco, for several years.

Her main research interests concern the relationship between Institutions, Islam and society. She is also specialized on Egyptian Freemasonry. Among her publications: I musulmani nel terzo millennio. Laicità e secolarizzazione nel mondo islamico (Carocci, Roma 2007) and Il sorriso della mezzaluna. Umorismo, ironia e satira nella cultura araba (with Paolo Branca and Patrizia Zanelli, Carocci, Roma 2011).
