Preparatory course for Italian-language translators (EPSO competition)

"Don't just translate words, translate ideas". The European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) has launched new translator competitions: Danish, Dutch, English, French, Italian, Maltese and Slovenian. Applications are open (deadline: 13 August 2013).

Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, through its centers ASERI and SeLdA (Servizio Linguistico di Ateneo), offers a comprehensive course on how to prepare for the stages of the competitions: pre-selection tests, assessment center, and a specific session for Italian-language translators.

Structure

The training actives will be organized in three days, as follows: 

Module I - Understanding and Translating Texts into Italian - Thursday, September 12th 2013

A short introduction to EPSO

Introduction to the learning path: knowledge and skills for a professional translator working in a multilingual and multi-cultural organisation:
overview of context, role and skills;
the translation work: translating specialist texts, providing wide-ranging linguistic advice, assessing the quality of a translated text into target language.

Soft skills for the translator: working to deadlines, prioritising and organising, working in team.

Skills and tools for the profession, with particular reference to the translation from English/French into Italian within areas of general EU interest:
understanding the source language(s) (Reading Comprehension Test);
translating specialist texts into target language (Translation Test).

Participants profile

This seminar addresses to people willing to work within the EU Institutions as Italian-translators, with a degree-level education, a perfect command of Italian and a knowledge of at least two other EU languages (English, French or German).

Training language

The course will be conducted in English.

Number of participants

To ensure the high quality of learning and interaction, the maximum number of admitted participants is limited to 20.

Commitment required to participants

The Preparatory course for Italian-language translators (EPSO competition) is intended as an intense course. Participants will be required to dedicate adequate time to fulfill the requirements.

Previous editions

Preparatory courses for the EPSO competition have already been organized on: April 11th-13th, 2012 (III ed.), March 21st-23rd, 2012 (II ed.), November 30th - December 3rd, 2011 (I ed.).
