He graduated in Economics at the University of Bologna. At present he is Director of Research at ISPRI-CNR, the Institute for Socio-Economic Studies on Innovation and Research Policy, National Research Council of Italy, and Professor of Economic Geography at the Catholic University of Milan. His main research and teaching experiences are on international trade, natural resource economics and policy, innovation and economic growth. He is the author of various essays and editor of books published in Italian and English.
