Abdolrasool (Farzam) Divsallar co-leads the Regional Security Initiative (RSI) at the Middle East Directions Programme of the Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies at the European University Institute (EUI). Prior to this, he was a Policy Leader Fellow at the EUI School of Transnational Governance, a senior fellow at the Institute for the Middle East Strategic Studies (2017-2019), and Director of the National Resource and Development Program (2009-2015) in Tehran. In addition, between 2005 and 2012, he worked as a researcher at both the Defense Industries Training and Research Institute and the Center for Strategic Studies of the Expediency Council. 
Divsallar holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Tehran. He has worked extensively on Iranian defense and security policy, great power politics in the Middle East, international security of the Persian Gulf, comparative regional security studies, and non-proliferation and disarmament. His works resulted in nine books and several papers in top international journals such as Washington Quarterly, British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, and the International Spectator. European University Institute published his most recent co-edited book Stepping Away from the Abyss: A Gradual Approach Towards a New Security System in the Persian Gulf (2021).
