After two years passed in a field experience in Senegal, Dr. Schunk became project manager in the headquarters of an Italian NGO on 1990. In 1994 he assumed the role of general coordinator of the program sector through 2003. In 1995 he attended the first course for civilian personnel in Peacekeeping operations at Scuola Sant'Anna of Pisa. This formation was useful to accomplish many electoral missions in the Balkans zone between 1996 and 2000 in collaboration with OSCE and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 2003 to 2006 he was engaged as an expert in EC projects by an Agency in Brussels. Many missions of consultancy in PCM were made for the EC, ILO, UNDP, UNAIDS, OSCE, the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Italian Conference of Bishops, the Italian federation of NGO-FOCSIV, Italians decentralized co-operation agencies and Italian NGO's.

Dr. Schunk is now the coordinator of the Master in Development and the Diploma of International co-operation in ISPI (Milan). He is also an instructor in the following institutions: the Master of Mediation of conflicts and International operators of peace in Bologna-Bolzano, the IULM of Milan, the Catholic University of Milan and agencies of Italian decentralized cooperation, Associations and NGO's.
