It is an illusion whose economic premises this book criticizes and explores the ethical, social and political consequences. He emphasized how, in a society that resolves itself in the market, money can buy everything and inequalities of income, wealth and opportunities can grow out of all proportion in the name of merit, incentives, efficiency.
