It is in the Arctic where the echo of the cannons thundering in Ukraine can be heard loudest. It is where NATO and Russia have met for the final duel. It is apparently extraneous to the dissolution of the world order taking place, in reality it is at the center of everything. When Joe Biden predicts a "possible conflict" with Russia for dominance of the Arctic, for Vladimir Putin it is a declaration of war: "We will crack the teeth of anyone who thinks of challenging our sovereignty in the Arctic". Marzio G. Mian is one of the few international reporters to report on the epochal transformation of the polar region triggered by climate change for years in the field. The only area of the world that has not yet been exploited hides those resources that the world is most hungry for: hydrocarbons, rare earths, fish, new strategic routes. Mian reveals how, after February 24, 2022, the Great North is the epicenter of the clash. "The Arctic is Putin's ATM, for us it is intolerable," they say at the State Department. White War also shows how China in the Arctic is already Russia's military partner, with its fleet, satellites and radars.
Marzio G. Mian founded together with other international journalists the non-profit company The Arctic Times Project based in the USA. In Italy he is part of The River Journal, a multimedia storytelling project through the great rivers of the world. He collaborates with Rai, Sky, Sette, Internazionale, L'Espresso, Reportagen, Revue XXI. He is among the journalists affiliated with the Pulitzer Center in Washington. He has carried out investigations and reports in 56 countries. A playwright, he has published Artico for Neri Pozza. The battle for the great North (2018), Tiber against the current (2019) and, with Francesco Battistini, Maledetta Sarajevo (2022).
