Faced with the images of the conflict in Ukraine and the threat that this war poses for the future of Europe, the volume examines the treacherous Russian aggression and its implications with a sociological approach and multidisciplinary attention, aimed at highlighting the serious vulnus represented by the invasion of a sovereign and democratic state. Through the historical-contextual reconstruction of relations between Russia and Ukraine, the origins of Putin's "imperial project" and the terrible consequences of the conflict are analyzed, carrying out a systematic monitoring of the events relating to 2022 with particular reference to the forms of human mobility (forced and otherwise) caused by the Russian attack, in line with the author's thirty-year research interests. The book also dwells on the risks associated with war, identifying two of the most serious ones: the possibility that this aggression will slip into oblivion and that a new "clash of civilizations" will emerge, increasingly openly pursued by Putin against the West. Precisely to avoid these dangers, it is essential to cultivate the memory of the attack inflicted on Ukraine and, with it, on democracy, hoping that a peace will soon be achieved that guarantees the freedom of the Ukrainian people.

The copyright of the volume will be donated to the association I Bambini dell'Est.
