Few contemporary histories are as relevant as the rise of the Gulf monarchies: from secondary players on the Middle East chessboard to the new center of gravity of the enlarged Mediterranean and, finally, to key players on the delicate global balances after the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The book tells this story, to learn more about the countries that ensure 20% of the world's energy resources, that act as important forces in financial balances and that condition political trajectories from the Mediterranean, to East Africa, to South-West Asia. From the Libyan conflict to tensions with Iran, from the security of routes and nerve centers to the delicate multipolar game between the United States, China and Russia, the Gulf monarchies are at the center of strategic interests for Europe, as well as for Italy. The book analyzes these dynamics in a clear form and describes the key role that the Arabian Peninsula plays in energy markets and in the transition to renewable forms of energy.
