As part of the Graduate School of Economics and International Relations – ASERI, the following internship opportunity offered by NATO is worth mentioning.
The NATO Rapid Deployable Corps Italy (NRDC-ITA) headquarters offers internship opportunities at its headquarters in Solbiate Olona. This is a training internship reserved for students enrolled in the Master's Degree Course in European and International Politics (Faculty of Political and Social Sciences) or in Master's Degrees in the area with a Bachelor's Degree.
Objectives and contents
The main objective of the internship is to inform, disseminate and disseminate knowledge and information related to current issues and topics of critical importance to the NRDC-ITA and NATO, with a particular focus on NATO Strategic Direction South (NSD-S).
The internship will consist of lectures and practical research work focused on North Africa (Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Libya), an area characterized by complexity, asymmetries and potentially hybrid threats.
The analysis of the four countries will be conducted through a multidimensional approach using the PMESII (Political, Military, Economic, Social, Infrastructure and Information) domains with the aim of achieving a holistic understanding of the dynamics and interactions of the different connected systems and subsystems (System of Systems Analysis - SoSA).
In addition, the internship aims to:
- Develop understanding of NATO's comprehensive approach to crisis response.
- Develop an understanding of the PMESII system (areas: Political, Military, Economic, Social, Infrastructure and Information) and the System of Systems Analysis (SoSA) used to analyze a potential crisis area.
- Acquire the ability to carry out targeted research on open sources.
- Develop or strengthen critical thinking and analytical skills.
Structure and period
The experience is divided into two phases and periods:
Remote phase: from 28 March to 4 May 2023.
Kick-off video conference on 28 March at 10:30 a.m.
This phase involves the assignment of the research work to the selected students. The research will focus on topics related to the social, economic and political areas relevant to the geographical area of North Africa. The research areas identified aim to fill the knowledge gaps relating to the comprehensive approach adopted by NATO in the analysis and planning phase relating to a given area of crisis or potential crisis (Strategic Planning). This approach is expressed through the analysis of the aspects that are summarized in the acronym in order to raise the level of knowledge and therefore situational awareness relating to the potential crisis area and thus supporting, in an appropriate way, the decision-making process.
Residential phase: May 8-19, 2023 from 8:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Thematic lectures and finalization of the analysis work with our tutors who are experts in the various fields.
The residential phase will take place at:
NATO Rapid Deployable Corps (NRDC-ITA)
Via per Busto, 20
21058 SOLBIATE OLONA
(VA)
Final day
The selected students will hold a briefing to illustrate the results of the analytical work to the NRDC-ITA HQ Command Group, staff and representatives of the universities.
