Systemic instability and the ongoing redefinition of the international order constitute the horizon of the new year, drawing attention to the material and symbolic arenas in which global power is exercised and contested. In this framework, and in view of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympic Games, sport is configured as an analytically significant arena, capable of making visible the tensions, contradictions and opportunities to renegotiate international coexistence in the twenty-first century.
