China's economic, political, and military rise has a crucial impact on contemporary international politics. Beijing promotes its own vision of the international order, very different from the one promoted by the United States and based on concepts such as sovereignty, self-determination, a strong role of the state in the economy. This does not necessarily imply the beginning of a new Cold War, but rather a complex process of renegotiation of the international order that concerns several dimensions: security, economy, ideology and relations with allies.
Matteo Dian is Assistant Professor (type B, senior) at the Department of Political and Social Sciences of the University of Bologna where he teaches East Asian International Politics. Previously, he held research and teaching positions at the University of Oxford, the London School of Economics and Political Science and the Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
