General Claudio Graziano, President of the European Military Committee
Between pressures aimed at fragmentation and calls for greater integration at the military level, the Union seeks to respond to contemporary challenges to European security. From the Mediterranean front to the tensions between Belarus and Poland, passing through Ukraine and the Balkan routes, General Graziano – President of the European Military Committee – takes stock of the current situation of the common European defence and talks with Prof. Vittorio Emanuele Parsi on future prospects.
General Claudio Graziano has been President of the European Military Committee since 2018. In his long military career he was Commander of the Taurinense Alpine Brigade deployed in Afghanistan (2008) and subsequently Force Commander and Head of Mission of the UNIFIL mission (Lebanon, 2007-2010). In 2010 he was promoted to General of the Army Corps. In 2011 he was appointed Chief of Staff in the Ministry of Defense and assumed the role of Chief of Staff of the Italian Army. Since 2014 he has been Chief of Defense Staff. General Graziano holds a degree in International and Diplomatic Sciences (University of Trieste) and one in Strategic Military Studies (University of Turin), and two master's degrees in Human Sciences and Strategic Military Sciences. General Graziano also graduated from the United States Army War College (Carlisle) and the Military Academy of Modena.
