Aseri, committed to reading the world for thirty years

The Graduate School of Economics and International Relations of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore celebrates its 30th anniversary

An important milestone for an institution that, since 1995, has represented a point of reference in the training of qualified professionals and in the ability to offer tools to understand the complex international arena.

Friday 4 and Saturday 5 July were two days of debate and discussion, bringing together the large community of professors, visiting professors and alumni who over the course of three decades have animated the numerous educational activities and the many cultural initiatives of the Graduate School.

An event that wants to be much more than a celebration since it is also an opportunity to dwell on the current situation and reflect on the future prospects of international relations, in a historical moment marked by strong tensions, profound changes and crisis of democracy.

The celebrations opened on Friday 4 July, at 2.30 p.m., in the Aula Magna of the University with institutional greetings from Elena Beccalli, Rector of Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Andrea Santini, Dean of the Faculty of Political and Social Sciences, and Damiano Palano, Director of Aseri.

At 3.15 p.m., the debate "Thirty years later" followed, which will be animated by speeches by Simona Beretta, Director of the Master in International Cooperation and Development, Lorenzo Ornaghi, Honorary President of ASERI, Piero Bassetti, President of Globus et Locus, via video link Vittorio Emanuele Parsi, former Director of ASERI, and Federica Olivares, Director of the Master in Advanced Public and Cultural Diplomacy for International Relations.

At 4.15 p.m. it was the turn of the round table with alumnae and alumni. Moderated by Riccardo Redaelli, Director of the Master in Middle Eastern Studies, Giovanna Lazzarini, Maria Stella Martini, Nadia Paleari, Fabrizio Sarrica participated.

At 6.00 p.m., introduced by Professor Raul Caruso, Full Professor of Economic Policy and alumnus of the Graduate School, there will be reports by Keynote Speakers Adrian Pabst, Deputy Director, National Institute of Economic and Social Research, UK, and Anke Hoeffler, Professor of Development Research, University of Konstanz, respectively entitled: "After Liberalism: the common good beyond progressivist and populist politics" and "Development and (in)security: between scepticism and hope".

On Saturday 5 July, the celebrations continued with Michael Cox, Emeritus Professor, London School of Economics, with the speech "The World Turned Upside Down in the Age of Strong Men".

At 11.15 a.m., Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and Aseri professor Paolo Maggiolini coordinated the Alumni Roundtable in which Manuel Andrade, Giuseppe Gabusi, Ignacio Lara and Manuela Prina discussed.

30 years of ASERI,
A story to tell

To celebrate this anniversary, we have collected everything in an unpublished volume: a choral story between memories, reflections and future prospects.

The leading voices? Distinguished professors, alumni who have left their mark and the three directors who have led ASERI over time: Lorenzo Ornaghi, Vittorio Emanuele Parsi and Damiano Palano

A tribute to the past, a look towards the future.
