What are the links between the international system and major international sporting events and competitions? Starting from this question, Leo Goretti (Istituto Affari Internazionali, IAI) proposes a reflection on international sport as a "secondary institution" of the international system — a space in which political positions, conflicts and power dynamics can intertwine.

In an international system increasingly marked by conflicts and tensions, and on the eve of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, the lecture offers an unprecedented perspective on the political role of international sporting events, highlighting how they reflect and at the same time interact with broader transformations of the global order.
