Thirty years after the end of apartheid, southern Africa has returned to the center of international interest due to the difficult process of democratization and the attempts of Russia and China to integrate into the region. The author reconstructs the development of southern Africa starting from the first European settlements, which gave the area unique characteristics on the continent. The legacy that colonialism has left behind is in fact difficult, made up as it is of profound economic inequalities and societies defined by ethnic and cultural diversity. A reality in which the presence of white and Asian minorities continues to fuel the debate on pluralism and multiculturalism, while historical ties with the West and the Indian Ocean area keep an open door to the rest of the world.
Participation is free.
