Giacon Renato

Having spent the past 13 years working at the intersection of European public policy, international development and financial markets in global institutions, Renato is an experienced economist and international civil servant with robust academic qualifications and relevant international professional expertise. 

Renato is Principal Counsellor at the London-based European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Vice Presidency for Policy and Partnerships, where he is the focal point for the delivery of Next Generation EU, the Recovery & Resilience Facility and the European Structural and Investment Funds across the EBRD EU countries of operations. Previously, he led various EBRD Country Strategies, ensuring appropriate formulation of strategic orientations from the point of view of transition needs, political economy and the Bank's ability to have lasting impact.

Renato also worked for the United Nations, the Italian Delegation to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), PwC, Oxford Analytica and FleishmanHillardEU. He has published various working papers, academic journals and op-eds with media impact on issues of European Political Economy, including the need of a fully-developed European Banking ad Capital Markets Union, better coordination between European monetary and fiscal policy and the role of NextGeneration EU and the RRF in fiscal integration at EU level and the provision of European public goods. 

An Italian national, he holds an M.Phil. in International Economics at Sciences Po Paris, an M.Sc. Summa Cum Laude in International Relations and European Affairs at the Catholic University of Milan (UCSC) and Sorbonne University as well as an Executive Programme in Economic Development at Harvard Kennedy School (HKS). Finally, Renato is also a Visiting Lecturer at Brunel University’s Department of Economics and Finance and collaborates with the LSE European Institute and Harvard and LSE Growth Lab.
