Overview

To provide students with the tools and knowledge they need to be able to operate in the world, for the world.

This is the objective of the Master in International Cooperation and Development, an interdisciplinary training course, which aims to provide possible solutions to the problems of inequality, poverty, instability and conflict that afflict the majority of the world's population.

The Master in International Cooperation and Development, a First-level Specialising Master Programme degree, is designed for:

  • Recent graduates, having obtained a graduate or an undergraduate degree, with a strong interest in deepening the dynamics of cooperation and development, and in acquiring theoretical and professional skills;
  • Young professionals, eager to deepen their professional skills in the field of international cooperation;
  • Advanced professionals, seeking to update and strengthen their skills and to enhance the value of their experience in global development issues.

FIVE REASONS TO CHOOSE MICAD

  • An interdisciplinary, innovative and international path, which aims to train development professionals at a global level;
  • A faculty from the world, for the world, with academics and professionals who work every day in the field of international cooperation;
  • The development of both theoretical and applied skills, enabling participants to operate effectively and create impact in situations of instability;
  • A personalized pathway for career guidance and professional development, including a dedicated advisor who supports students in securing their internship;
  • An internship of no less than three months, in Italy or abroad, offering the opportunity to apply the knowledge acquired.
Programme

The Master includes six months of classroom instruction, in ASERI, followed by about five months dedicated to the internship experience and the drafting of the final dissertation for the Master (the Project Work).
Classroom instruction consist of in-person lectures and practical workshops.

The objective of the programme is to provide MICAD students with the theoretical and practical tools and knowledge needed to analyze, understand, and offer solutions to development challenges within and between countries worldwide. Upon completion of the programme, MICAD graduates will be able to embark on a professional career in the field and contribute to building bridges between peoples, civilizations, and nations at the international level.

The Master in International Cooperation and Development is characterized by a multidimensional and interdisciplinary approach, which accompanies the four distinct levels of the Master throughout their duration.

The in-depth scientific and professional training programmes are closely connected, so as to allow a constant dialogue between theory and practice: field experience opens up new lines of research, while systematic reflection on practical activities fosters continuous learning.

From an academic perspective, MICAD explores international development issues, studying their Economics, Law and related institutions. Geopolitics, conflict situations and the management of post-conflict contexts are also addressed.

All of this provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the Project Cycle Management processes and the Theory of Change.

The professional training component, on the other hand, focuses on Development Actors and Strategies, Prevention, Rescue and Recovery for emergency situations. It also examines Human Rights issues and their application in situations of conflict and instability.

-          How to actively contribute to building "bridges" for development, with a bottom-up approach;

-          How to engage local civil society in identifying its own resources and managing them effectively;

-          Understand the technical, financial and administrative dynamics of cooperation initiatives;

-          Collaborate with national and international institutions, within local policies;

-          Promote initiatives of good governance, respect for human rights and dignity with state and non-state actors;

-          Seek and formulate solutions to transnational issues, such as migration and illicit trafficking;

-          Actively contribute to the building of processes, institutions and democratic governance in the world.

The final calendar of courses will be made available shortly.

However, the Master will follow the following structure:

January 2026 - June 2026: courses and lectures
July 2026 - November 2026: Internship and Project Work
December 2026: Graduation
